 | Well here is a brief story of our Clubman Estate. In 2001, me and the missus moved back to the UK, and with this
move the missus decided to pass her driving test (at last!!!). |
 | We wanted a motor, that would be cheap to insure, cheap to
drive, cheap to buy (I see a theme here!!) etc etc. We've both had and loved
Mini's through the years, even if the missus didn't actually drive hers!!. So we
thought of getting a Mini, now a Mini van would have been ideal, as we have 2
Dalmations, and we wanted something to shift them around in. Now Mini Vans are
quite rare beasts in this day and age, and if you can find one, they are either
rotten, heavly modified or very, very expensive. So I mentioned to her that we
should get a Clubman Estate, we found one eventually and we went to have a look
at it. One owner from new, unmodified and with only 35k on the clock, loads of
history. So we had a look, and left with it. In 2002, we went to a Mini meeting in Watford, and lo and
behold, somebody was selling a Clubman Estate for £150, no MoT or tax, but we
thought it would make ideal spares if anything, as it was the same age as ours.
2 weeks later, we had an MoT on it, and decided to drive that instead, thinking
that we should drive that while we took the first one off of the road to
renovate it!! What I thought would start as a couple of weeks worth of work
turned into about a year! With a hell of a lot of welding and painting being
involved. I've never been particular happy with the work that was carried out,
and intended to rectify if when I had the time.
|
| We bought a house, that required a hell of a lot of
renovation, and one day we pulled the mini into the garage, and there it has
stayed. I will be soon, in the spring, be taking it out again, with the
intention of running it. We toyed with the Idea of selling it, but decided we
would never get what we wanted for it and when we could we would be getting
another one when time permitted. |
